The Pub

A tourist’s dream but not a burger dream

The Pub interior

The truth and nothing but the truth

Let’s start with a capital sin. The Pub provides a beer tap on every single table! Berlin is no goddamn Disneyland, my friends, and the touchscreens to order the drinks often don’t even work properly. So yes, expect loud groups of English tourists there. Which is usually a no-go for Berliners, because we HATE tourists (and LOVE their money). But The Pub also has a lot of things going for it, especially the beautiful cosy location under the arches of the central railway lines near Alexanderplatz. So, that leaves one very important question…

That was a long story, dude. Ze burgers?!

This actually was #SecretGayGuy’s favorite place when we started our burger adventure back in the days. Understandable, as he is from Polish descent and they like their portions HUGE. This is one of the few places where we were not able to speak anymore after our visit, saturated by the plate of salad, coleslaw, fries and a huge piece of meat.

But does quantity equate quality? Jein, as they say here (a mix of yes and no). The patty is huge and thick and very decent. But it lacks something special, an ingredient to make it more juicy or spicy or just remarkable. And they pack some lettuce and other stuff on top of it, making it almost physically impossible to eat them. Just a little too much to be really mind-boggling or memorable. Last but not least, honorable mention goes to the little hero of our plate, the coleslaw salad. Creamy and delicious, it gives you a nice break in-between to take a deep breath so you can continue the onslaught on your fatty liver with a “I already started, so let’s finish this” smile.

Famous last words?

It should be called The Pug instead of The Pub. We have no idea why the owners decided to style the place with graffiti and loads of pictures of small dogs. It admittedly does make the place even cosier and of course gay-friendly – that’s probably why #SecretGayGuy fell in love with The Pub in the first place 😉
