Testing the meat in gay Schöneberg
The truth and nothing but the truth
We would of course NEVER dare to say we are regularly testing meat in the gay Schöneberg area. We’re not like that. So after all the countless non-visits to the Reizbar, Scheune, Hafenbar, New Action, Bulls Bar and Tom’s Bar it was quite a surprise to find this non-assuming burger joint in the heart of the Motzstraße.
Even more surprising is that the stylish Zsa Zsa isn’t dominated by a gay audience. Word has apparently spread around that this is a really good ‘Burger Bude’: forget about coming here without an appointment. The place is small and chances are it will be packed. But, in contrast to the surrounding bars, in a decent and pleasant way of course 🙂
That was a long story, dude. Ze burgers?!
Well, as always we overestimated our own capabilities. This time because we choose the ‘whole grain’ buns instead of the usual ones, which made the already mighty meat meal even heavier. The El Cubano, with Spanish manchego cheese and boiled ham, was one of the more hearty challenges of our Hot Meat career so far.
What’s really cool at Zsa Zsa is that they put all the basic ingredients (salad, tomato, onion, etc) on a side dish, so you can decide for yourself whether to overload the burger or not. The meat: one big 200 gram patty that isn’t as juicy as we’re used to in this side of town, and we’re happy for that. Anyway, it was really good but on the other hand didn’t blow us completely away.
Famous last words?
Our Zsa Zsa experience was a bit as with The Bird: the first visit you’re completely overwhelmed, until you discover there is competition that’s even better. Top-10 material? Yes, very probably. Top-3? Definitely not.
